Sev1Tech: Keeping Space Force Data and Communications Secure
Over the past five years, the Space Force has made significant advancements in defense network connectivity and joint space operations to strengthen the U.S. space domain presence. As the department continues to digitize in 2025, it must be able to address significant data challenges and rapidly increasing cyber threats to fortify defense communication systems and maintain a competitive advantage over foreign adversaries.
"When you bring that detection down, analyze it and you have to move that data to someone who's going to make a decision and then someone who'd going to take action on it, yeah, latency and time to data is more important than security."
Michael Fry, Sev1Tech
Sev1Tech is a company providing IT modernization, cloud, cybersecurity, engineering, fielding, training, and program support services. Their offerings span across defense, intelligence, homeland security, health, space, and commercial markets.
On this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast, Tom Patton talks with Michael Fry, General Manager of the Sev1Tech Air and Space Force Division.
"When you think about some of the programs that we work with ... missile warning for example ... satellites are detecting missiles across the world, for ourselves and our partners ... when you bring that detection down, analyze it and you have to move that data to someone who's going to make a decision and then someone who's going to take action on it, yeah, latency and time to data is more important than security," Fry said. "The real challenge here is getting that data across our networks faster than what can be provided by things like the Internet."
Sev1Tech developed the prototype for meshONE-T, which supports critical USSF missions and the Department of Defense’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control initiative. The high-bandwidth communications and edge connectivity offered through meshONE-T provides customers with data sharing capabilities required to enable their mission success.
To date, meshONE-T has been deployed to over 20 USSF and U.S. Air Force (USAF) sites averaging 1 site deployment a month and an expanded capability to deploy 2 sites a month in the follow on.
