‘The timing couldn’t be better’: Mike Benz highlights impact of Meta axing its fact-checking program

Mike Benz, executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, reacts to the news of social media empire Meta switching up its board members and replacing its fact-checking program for a system that will mirror X’s community notes. “I think Mark Zuckerberg has been skating this way for a long time. Frankly, I think he’s had a lot of this in his heart for pretty much since he started Facebook,” he says. “I think he’s got a good heart but a very weak spine, so when pressure was applied to Facebook he crumbled to preserve the business interests of Facebook.”
