Feb. 4, 1965 - President Johnson today threw his personal support behind the fight for Negro voting rights.
At a White House news conference, Johnson declared, “We will use the tools of the Civil Rights Act in every state in the Union in an effort to see that that act is fully observed.”
Johnson, who appeared to have recovered from his cold, spoke without any hoarseness. He dealt with matters as widely separated as the closing of veterans’ hospitals and the Robert Baker hearings on Capitol Hill.
