JAPANESE METHOD OF MULTIPLICATION: APPLICATION EXERCISE
The Japanese method of multiplication, also known as the "rectangle multiplication method" or "Chinese-Japanese multiplication method", is a multiplication algorithm that originated in China and was popularized in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). .
Features of the method
1. _Use of rectangles_: The method uses rectangles to represent the numbers being multiplied.
2. _Divide and conquer_: The method consists of dividing the numbers that are multiplied into smaller parts and multiplying each part by the other.
3. _Use of the sum of areas_: The method uses the sum of areas of the rectangles to calculate the final product.
Method steps
1. _Write the numbers that are multiplied_: Write the numbers that are multiplied in the form of rectangles.
2. _Divide numbers into smaller parts_: Divide numbers into smaller parts, usually one digit.
3. _Create rectangles for each part_: Create rectangles for each part of the numbers being multiplied.
4. _Calculate the area of each rectangle_: Calculate the area of each rectangle by multiplying the lengths of its sides.
5. _Add the areas of the rectangles_: Add the areas of the rectangles to calculate the final product.
Example
Multiply 43 by 27:
1. Write the numbers that are multiplied: 43 and 27.
2. Divide the numbers into smaller parts: 40 + 3 and 20 + 7.
3. Create rectangles for each part:
- Rectangle 1: 40 x 20 = 800
- Rectangle 2: 40 x 7 = 280
- Rectangle 3: 3 x 20 = 60
- Rectangle 4: 3 x 7 = 21
1. Calculate the area of each rectangle and add the areas: 800 + 280 + 60 + 21 = 1161.
The final product is 1161.
Advantages of the method

Disadvantages of the method
