Folks get really confident and defensive about their employee benefits and hey, I get it!

You've worked hard to get the good job with the great benefits. Take advantage of them! The only thing I try to explain to my clients is:

1. Those benefits may not be enough to cover your burial PLUS income replacement or debt coverage. This happens really often to families and they don't realize they didn't have enough coverage until its too late.

2. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Seek out your own private insurance that will sufficiently cover your life's needs. Because most of the time, if you lose the job, you not only lose that income but you lose your coverage.
