Hebrews in Egypt: Slaves or Masters?

I put together the Egyptian history of the Hyksos--foreign usurpers--and the Biblical narrative of Joseph who steals the grain and turns free Egyptian farmers into sharecroppers on their own land. Taxation is introduced through an engineered famine that makes Egyptians slaves to the Pharaoh. In the Amarna Letters, the terrorism of Habiru nomadic shepherds puts Egyptian cities under siege. I look at the origins of usury and usurped, taxation and terror.
