The Book of Matthew - Part 21
The lesson on January 12, 2025 was part 21 of “The Book of Matthew” study. Since it had been three weeks since our last lesson, Wayne to time to review what we had learned so far in Matthew 9 and the start of Matthew 10:1-6 KJV. It is so important to keep these passages in context and realize that the healing power Jesus had to heal everyone and bestowing that power to his disciples, is in context with the Kingdom of Heaven calling. Further when he emphasizes that they were to go the lost sheep of the house of Israel, the Gentiles were as dogs under the table. We are given the full list of his twelve disciples and Paul is not one of them. When you jump to Matthew 15:22-28 we see the Gentile woman from Canaan pleading to heal her daughter who was vexed with a devil, and the response of Jesus saying it is not right to take the the child’s bread and cast it to dogs. This is an Israel only meal. You then jump to Ephesians 3:1 you see PAul the prisoner of Christ addressing the Gentiles with a truth given to him specifically for us as said in Ephesians 3:2. Then in Ephesians 4:1 is where we get our vocation specifically to the Gentiles. You must keep Matthew in its context. It is unfortunate that some Pentecostal churches who claim to have healing power put on healing shows that are fake. Real healing power in the gospels was immediate. We have the dispensation of grace where healing power is reserved by God alone.
The scripture reading was from Matthew 10:1-6 (KJV) “1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
