Helen Shaw’s Bubble Pup bass fly pattern

a Helen Shaw bass fly using the pattern in The Founding Flies by Mike Valla

Hook: #2 - 4 down eye
Thread: body color
Tail: two black saddle hackle tips
Collar: tip ends of first deer hair wrap
Body: spun and clipped deer hair, originally yellow but use color best suited to local fishing conditions; clip face at an angle with longer on top and shorter on bottom and “lacquer”

(here, diluted Goop was used)
Head cement recipe:
Goop
Xylene (epoxy thinnner)

Instructions:
Fill a quart jar half full with Xylene
Squeeze a tube of Goop into the Xylene
Shake until the Goop is dissolved; add Xylene to desired consistency

Apply with a pin or needle dipped in the liquid
