Behavioral and health outcomes of mRNA COVID-19 vaccination: A case-control study in Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises

A higher percentage of participants who became infected with COVID-19 had received at least one dose of the vaccine

The odds of becoming infected with COVID-19 increased with the number of vaccine doses:

One to two doses, OR: 1.63, (p = 0.020)

Three to four doses, OR: 2.04, (p = 0.001)

Five to seven doses, OR: 2.21, (p = 0.033).

Behavioral analysis showed that reduced frequency of bathing and exercise,

was significantly associated with higher COVID-19 infection rates

i.e., frequency of bathing and exercise were preventive for infection

Negative efficacy

Conclusions

The study observed a higher reported incidence of COVID-19 infections in vaccinated individuals during the pandemic period

infections, which correlated positively with the number of vaccines

This paradoxical finding may be influenced by several factors,

including immune response mechanisms,

increase in T suppressor (regulatory cells)

antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE),

antigenic original sin,

behavioral changes,

exposure risk.

Understanding these factors is critical to urgently improve public health strategies and vaccination programs.

Data from the Japan Small and Medium Enterprise Management Council, December 2023.

The survey collected information on

demographic characteristics,

COVID-19 infection status,

vaccination history,

health status before January 2020,

various preventive behaviors.

Primary outcome, presence or absence of COVID-19 infection.

Association between vaccination status and COVID-19 infection.
