I would suggest that religion and philosophy together form the mental and emotional operating system for every human being. Religion cannot be properly religion unless it has an element of philosophy, which would include such things as anthropology, cosmology, and a philosophy of science. Of course, religion can devolve into merely demonically inspired superstition and fear or psychotic passions: lusts, greed, avarice, and hate. It is easy to see how the latter definition covers the religion of the Zionist Jews, for instance.
