After another round of negotiations, Balaam is told to go to Balak BUT to do and say only what the LORD tells him. Balaam saddled his donkey and went to visit king Balak at Balaks request. He still intended to curse the Israelites and get the payday.
The angel of the LORD stood in Balaam’s path with a drawn sword ready to kill him. 3 times the donkey responds to the presence of the LORD and each time Balaam beats the donkey. Balaam’s donkey saw the angel, but Balaam didn’t.
King Balak meets with Balaam in Moab and took him to Bamoth-baal to see the multitude of Israelites camped near his land.
Was Balak sacrificing to his god Chemosh? If so then the next question is: Was Balaam willingly participating in that worship. If he was that was NOT something a true follower of YHVH would have done. (DEU 32 refers to this).
41 The next morning Balak took Balaam up to Bamoth Baal, and from there he could see the outskirts of the Israelite camp.
Balaam the seer takes charge of the situation and gives Balak instructions that he follows. Seven altars, seven bulls, seven rams.
