In honour of the abused boy
I dedicate this clip to abused boys across the world. Boys who are victims of abuse often carry their suffering in total silence. May the future hold more compassion for them.
This otherworldly clip is from the 1983 Japanese-British movie "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence". The context: David Bowie's character, Jack Celliers, is guilt ridden for life because he in childhood had the chance to intercede and spare his sensitive younger brother from a cruel hazing ritual at their school. But he didn't, out of shame, and as a result, the little brother, who was musically gifted and already had begun composing his own songs at a young age, was silenced for life; he became so traumatized that he never made music, or lifted his voice in song, again.
The symbolism goes straight to the heart.
The movie's main theme is the various forms of abuse commonly suffered by men and boys across the cultures of the world. It is not an easy watch, but it is worth it.
