Teen pleads guilty to murdering 3 girls at Taylor Swift-themed party

An 18-year-old teenager, Axel Rudakubana, pleaded guilty on Monday, January 20, to murdering three young girls and injuring 10 others during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England, last summer. Victims included Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9.

Rudakubana also admitted to 10 counts of attempted murder, targeting eight children aged 7 to 13 and two adults, dance teacher Leanne Lucas and Jonathan Hayes, who tried to shield the kids. Authorities discovered ricin and an al-Qaida manual in his home, adding charges of possessing a poison and extremist materials.

While investigators have yet to determine a motive, the attack is not currently classified as terrorism. Taylor Swift, unaffiliated with the class, expressed her shock and heartbreak on Instagram, writing, “These were just little kids at a dance class.” She later invited survivors to her London Eras Tour stop.

This tragedy echoes a prior incident during Swift’s Brazil Eras Tour in 2023, where 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides died of heat exhaustion. Swift mourned her fans publicly, highlighting the devastating loss of young lives.

Authorities have confirmed Rudakubana poses no further threat, and the investigation continues.
