D-Day (Battle of Normandy, June 6, 1944): Allied forces launched a massive invasion of German-occupied France. The operation involved land, sea, and air forces and resulted in the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control. D-Day is often regarded as one of the largest amphibious assaults in history.
