The Medieval Jewish Empire of Khazaria

This is a rather long episode with guest co-host Gerron telling the story of the medieval jewish empire of Khazaria. There are some important things covered here. First, there are several commonly told myths about this empire that simply aren't true. Secondly, this is not another story of the dilution of the jewish gene pool by a conversion which always remains jewish, as the Turkish people who had converted to Judaism later converted to Islam. Of course, there was some mixing during the conversion period but it wasn't a complete dilution of blood as in other stories. Also important was the idea that at the time, Khazaria was considered to be Israel and that the Khazarian Correspondence shows that Rabbis believed that the success of this new Israel was proof that jews were not still being punished for the murder of Jesus.
