Little Birch Dance

The Beryozka Dance, established by Nadezhda Nadezhdina in 1948, is named after the birch tree (Beryozka in Russian), a symbol of beauty and femininity in Russian culture.

The dance is famous for its seemingly floating movement, achieved through a technique called prizhimka, where dancers take small, quick steps while keeping their upper bodies completely still.

This illusion is enhanced by long, flowing skirts that conceal the feet. The choreography draws inspiration from Russian folk traditions, incorporating elements of rural rituals and songs.

The Beryozka Dance Ensemble performed internationally during the Cold War, serving as a cultural ambassador and showcasing Russia's artistic heritage to global audiences.
