The term "Christian" (Greek: Χριστιανός, Christianos) was first used in Antioch to describe the disciples of Jesus Christ. This designation, appearing in Acts 11:26, signifies a follower of Christ and was embraced by early believers as a badge of honor. Peter, an apostle who intimately knew Jesus and was inspired by the Holy Spirit, exhorted believers not to be ashamed of this identity. In 1 Peter 4:16, he states, "Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name." This underscores the importance of proudly bearing the name "Christian" despite any suffering or persecution.

The Bible encourages believers to stand firm in their faith and identity. In Romans 1:16, Paul declares, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." Similarly, Jesus warns in Mark 8:38, "For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." These passages highlight the imperative for Christians to boldly profess their faith.
