Russell Edwards
Russell Edwards is a 53-year-old businessman, historian, and author. Originally from Birkenhead, he was introduced to the Whitechapel area in London’s East End as a student. As a provisional ‘home from home,’ the East End became his preferred place to settle in and has been his home location for over 30 years.
In 2001, after watching the Jack the Ripper film From Hell, Russell, through his naturally enquiring mind, developed a fascination for the unsolved case and immersed himself into the mystery through endless research, both through the case files and copious literature on the story.
In 2007, he discovered by sheer chance that a shawl, purportedly taken from the 4th Ripper murder scene, was for sale. After identifying a link from the pattern on the shawl to the dates of the Ripper murders, his fascination grew into a serious interest. He purchased the shawl and embarked on a journey of discovery that no other individual had ever undertaken before.
In 2011, realizing that this evidence needed scientific endorsement, he was introduced to Dr. Jari Louhelainen, an expert forensic scientist of international repute, who extracted DNA from the shawl and, through a process of focused research and close collaboration with Russell, successfully identified the DNA as that of the 4th Ripper victim.
What had started as a fascination had developed into a determination to identify history’s most notorious killer: Jack the Ripper. Further investigation led to the true story behind the shawl’s provenance and the real killer’s identity, confirmed by state-of-the-art forensic techniques.
Now conclusively proven, Russell Edwards’ original instinct, recently confirmed by Scotland Yard, has named the man behind the mystery that had remained unsolved for so many years.
