In 2024 horse racing saw the emergence of some new champions in the shape of Jan Brueghel the Aidan O’Brien trained 3 year old, Bluestocking the 4 year old mare who won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Goliath who destroyed his opposition in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth.

However, there were some familiar faces amongst the best racehorses of 2024, i.e. Kyprios, Rebel’s Romance and Do Deuce. Looking to Japan there was no dominator matching Equinox from 2023 but there was T O Royal who owned the Japanese staying division in the first half of the year.

Australia and New Zealand failed to provide any consistent winners in the staying division. Via Sistina caught everyone’s eye in the spring but she was not racing over staying distances. If you followed the channel closely you would have been aware that she was an entrant in the Melbourne Cup until the last declarations were made 3 days before the race.

In the northern hemisphere we found our top 5 and Europe led the way with consistent types like Giavellotto, Sweet William, Sevenna’s Knight and Double Major ensuring a thoroughly high standard persisted for the Top 5 Racehorses in the Staying Division.
