FDA upgrades Oregon, Washington recall for Lay's Classic Potato Chips to highest level
The Food and Drug Administration upgraded a recall for Lay's Classic Potato Chips to the highest risk level on Monday for packages distributed in Oregon and Washington.

The FDA classification affects the Dec. 16 limited recall by Frito-Lay for 6,344 of its 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips.

According to an FDA alert, packages delivered to Oregon and Washington as early as Nov. 3, 2024 “may contain undeclared milk” and “those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product,” the alert said.

The Class 1 classification means that people who are exposed to or consume the chips could suffer "serious adverse health consequences or death," according to the FDA.

People in Oregon and Washington who may have purchased a 13-ounce bag of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips that have a Feb. 11 "guaranteed fresh" date, and a manufacturing code of "6462307xx" or "6463307xx," should immediately dispose of the chips.

This is especially important for anyone who may have a milk allergy.
