The story of 1 pilot fighting 64 Japanese planes is one of the most incredible dogfights in aviation history. It took place on April 7, 1943, during World War II and involved U.S. Army Air Forces pilot Lt. James H. "Jim" Swett, a Marine Corps aviator flying a Grumman F4F Wildcat. This was his very first combat mission, yet he managed to take down seven Japanese bombers in a single flight before crashing into the sea. His bravery earned him the Medal of Honor.
