TONGUES ~ Praying in the Spirit!... What is It?

PRAYING IN TONGUES?
SINGING IN TONGUES?

The Book of Acts 2:4 says, "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

What, exactly does that mean?
Can anyone pray in tongues?
Do I always need an interpreter?
Why would I need to pray in tongues, anyway?

In 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 Paul says, "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also."

Then in verse 18 Paul goes on to say, "I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than you all:"
