Sea of the Mediterranean (Aug. 2, 2024) During a live-fire drill as part of a sustainment shoot onboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), Aug. 2, 2024, an MK-38 25mm machine gun system fires. As the flagship of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG)-24th MEU (SOC), Wasp is operating in the area of operations of the U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF). In order to continue fostering regional stability and thwarting aggression, the WSP ARG-24th MEU (SOC) is planned to deploy to the NAVEUR-NAVAF area of operations. The unit will support U.S., Allied, and partner interests in the region, notably in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Sea of the Mediterranean (Aug. 14, 2024) On August 14, 2024, the Turkish Navy amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu (L-400) and the Turkish frigate TCG Gokova (F-496) are operating alongside the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG)-24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC), which includes the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) and the transport dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51). In order to continue fostering regional stability and thwarting aggression, the WSP ARG-24th MEU (SOC) is planned to deploy to the NAVEUR-NAVAF area of operations.
