Ryan Samsel, a political activist and January 6 defendant, gained national attention not only for his role in the Capitol breach but also for allegations of mistreatment while in federal custody. Arrested and charged for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, events, Samsel was accused of initiating confrontations with law enforcement at the Capitol barricades.
While detained in the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) custody, Samsel reported being brutally beaten by guards, suffering severe injuries, including a broken nose, fractured orbital bone, and potential permanent damage to his vision
