Growing Mesquite Trees From Seed Pods
I think I might have mastered growing mesquites from seed. It took some trial and error, but this seems to work.
I have been told that they can be transplanted etc, but I have had zero luck with that.
This turned out to be easier than I thought. I collected mesquite pods and kept them for a year. Ones from the current year might work, but this worked for me, so I am going to keep repeating it. Put them in nice soil, a mixture of garden or potting soil, loam, peat moss and a bit of sand. Bury them in about an inch of dirt and make sure to keep them wet. They will start to grow and when they start getting leaves, transplant them to an individual pot. Be sure to get all of that tap root. Even though these trees thrive in a harsh environment, they are pretty delicate when it comes to moving them. Keep them watered and after about a week in the pot, transplant them to the ground.
