On October 1, 2024, the US Sixth Fleet Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) strikes numerous Iranian ballistic missiles in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea to defend Israel. Bulkeley, which is equipped with the Aegis weapons system designed for ballistic missile defence, was stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean by the United States as part of U.S. Naval Forces Europe/Africa prior to the Iranian launch. Several missiles are thought to have been successfully engaged at this time.
