Can the Trump 2.0 Model End Violence Against Christians in Africa’s Most Populous Nation?

If Nigerians are to prosper in peace, they and their leaders should emulate the wisdom of Trump 2.0’s new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who said upon his confirmation:

“Serving as America’s 72nd Secretary of State is the highest honor of my professional life. President Trump has given me a clear direction to place our core national interest as the guiding mission of American foreign policy. Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, and every policy we pursue must be justified with the answer to three simple questions:

Does it make America safer?
Does it make America stronger?
Does it make America more prosperous?

Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country. With the birth of her next generation, Nigeria’s population will overtake America’s by 2050. It has vast human potential. Many Nigerian professionals, including medical doctors, professors, and other professionals, are among the world’s best. She is a bountiful land rich in agriculture, plentiful petroleum, highly sought-after minerals and other resources.

Nigeria also tops the list of Global Christian Relief’s (CGR) Red List.

“Africa remains the deadliest region for Christians, with Nigeria consistently being the most dangerous country for followers of Jesus. Between November 2022 and November 2024, nearly 10,000 Christians were killed, primarily by Islamic extremist groups such as Boko Haram, Armed Fulani Herdsmen, and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP),” explains GCR.

Save the Persecuted Christians (STPC) and our coalition partners, represented in part by the esteemed panelists detailed below, have long advocated for fresh, bold, Nigeria-loving leadership to blossom and help make this nation of wealth and promise all it can and should be. Leaders who follow the example of the new U.S. presidential administration will make Nigeria safe, strong and prosperous.

U.S. diplomats and policymakers can and should hold Nigeria accountable for these basic, common-sense principles – rule of law, secure borders, a strong military that provides for the common defense and a just judiciary. Together, we advocate for U.S. leaders and influencers to do everything within their spheres to help this strategic, developing nation become a constructive – and peaceful – model for all of Africa.
