After installing a longer flexible driveway marker, I encountered a major deformation problem

I shouldn't have needed to use a rubber strap-down tie to keep the wire basket from severely deforming. It's far stiffer than I imagined it would be (especially when grabbing to deploy from or retract into the docking pole).

A fishing rod would (presumably) be far more flexible and less stiff compared to a fiberglass flexible driveway marker, only it would need to be stripped of all the usual parts and wrapped in reflective tape (because it's black) to be effective. The cost would be more than the $5 I paid for the marker.
