Soldiers from the Connecticut, Virginia, and Pennsylvania Army National Guard, assigned to Joint Task Force-District of Columbia (JTF-DC), set up a security cordon around the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. on January 18, 2025. JTF-DC will consist of roughly 8,000 National Guard service men from over 40 states and territories to support the 60th Presidential Inauguration, carrying on a legacy begun in 1789 when their predecessors escorted George Washington to the first inauguration. These National Guard duty members give crucial support to civic authorities by managing crowds, controlling traffic, responding to CBRN incidents, responding to civil disturbances, and performing maintenance operations. Their experience and seamless work with interagency partners contribute to a secure and peaceful handover of power during this historic occasion.
