Sonic CD is a 2D platformer game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series that was developed and published by Sega. It was released for the Sega CD, an add-on for the Mega Drive in September 1993. Sonic CD is set on the enigmatic Little Planet, which appears on Earth once a year. The story follows Sonic the Hedgehog as he attempts to thwart Dr. Eggman's plans to get the Time Stones on Little Planet, which would grant him control over time itself. Sonic CD notably incorporates time travel mechanics, which allows players to explore levels across different time periods and explore alternate level layouts. It also introduces the characters Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. The game has been re-released a few times, most notably in 2011 for mobile devices and PC, as a remaster developed by Christian Whitehead, who would later co-develop Sonic Mania (2017).
