After all the other exercises Abraham had had, all the tests, and trials, and hardships and difficulties he had gone through he was probably thinking in his old age -now – perhaps - I am done being tested and tried by the Lord. But instead - he encounters one far more sharper and painful than any before. Understand - any former trials will not supersede nor secure us from further trials - till we cross the river and are with the Lord. The sanctification process never ends – the pruning continues.
