Tucker is an honest man and here he thinks he's fighting a duel. He uses the sword, an honorable weapon; with the sword you attack from the front, your enemy is facing you and he can see you. A knife, or a dagger, on the other hand, is what (mostly cowards) do to attack from behind, meaning using non-honorable tactics: tricks, traps, 'gotchas', strategies, stratagems et al. The Sword here most definitely won.
