Pennies On The Dollar An Original Song

Like many Californians, I watched in horror as the Pacific Palisades Los Angeles Wildfires continued to blaze and burned down homes. I was shocked by the delayed response and the amount of land and houses that were destroyed. With the images of the fire so freshly etched in my memory, this song just basically wrote itself as a fingerstyle bluegrass guitar song.

I used to come home from work
To my kids and my wife,
Playing fetch with the dog,
We had a happy life.
There were always things to do
Like cooking, cleaning mowing lawns,
I never thought that I'd wake up
One day and find it gone.

And left us living in squalor,

The reservoirs were full,
That's what the governor said;
Twelve thousand homes were burned,
I heard forty folks were dead.
Fire trucks were delayed,
Fires raging to the sea;
New cars were abandoned,
Everybody had to flee.

The Paradise and Oroville fires
Left me with bad dreams,
but the fire here in Palisades
Is the worst I've ever seen.
My insurance rates have tripled,
There's permits to rebuild,
How's somebody supposed to live
When they can't afford to pay their bills?
