•The ILO classified all occupations in the world into 12,000 categories using the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO).
•Most people work in a few popular occupations like retail sales, cashiers, nurses, teachers, office clerks, etc. Only a small percentage work in less common occupations.
•There are 4 skill levels based on education, knowledge, and training required for the job:
-Skill level 1 requires little education and training. Examples include cleaning and sweeping.
-Skill level 2 requires some education and training. Examples include driving and operating machines.
-Skill level 3 requires a bachelor's degree. Examples include teachers, technicians, and programmers.
-Skill level 4 requires an advanced degree. Examples include doctors, lawyers, and engineers.
•Knowing your skill level helps determine the types of jobs and occupations you are suited for.
The ILO assigned a 4 digit code to the 12,000 occupations to standardize them globally. Different codes represent different occupations.
•The video discusses how skill level affects lifetime earnings and wealth. Higher skill levels generally correlate with higher pay.
