Bhutan, a tiny, land-connected country of 700'000 pople shows how a completely different set of politics and diplomacy, based on Asian values, is emerging as a better way of doing world politics than what the last 500 years of western warfare and cultural hegemony have been charting out.

My guest today is Michael Rutland Michael studied Physics and Mathematics at London University before moving to Bhutan, where he assisted in setting up a school and taught the future Fourth King of Bhutan.

Michael has now made over 160 educational television programmes in Bhutan and is the founder of the Bhutan Society of the United Kingdom. He was awarded an Order of the British Empire in 2005 by Queen Elizabeth II for services to British-Bhutan relations, and he is also a holder of Bhutan's Order of Merit. He became Bhutanese citizen as well, currently living in Thimphu, the capital.
