On February 5, 1988, Hulk Hogan defended the WWF Championship against Andre the Giant on The Main Event, one of the most-watched wrestling broadcasts in history.

In a highly controversial match, Andre, backed by Ted DiBiase and Virgil, overpowered Hogan and controversially won the title after referee Earl Hebner, revealed to be a double of his brother Dave Hebner, made a fast count.
