We speculate on the motives behind Paul Klebnikov's murder, and why it still matters two decades on.

Russia figures prominently here, but partly as a mirror to the United States of America, which is going through its own crisis of oligarchy. It should be remembered that historical events are patterns meant to be studied as they happen in real time.
