Jung's Inferiority Complex in Misogyny

How can we model the shadow psychology of heterosexual men in misogyny? Do such models help to understand a fundamental problem in the psychological structure of masculinity that repeats itself throughout history, cultures and nations, and across misogyny, racism and fascism?

Continuing his outline of shadow psychology that is kept out of sight of ego functioning in men, Previn Karian opens up his modelling of Jung's inferiority complex in "Psychological Types", while leaving the sadistic and masochistic drives from Freud for the follow up video to this one.

Men are gender stereotyped and bio-psychologically wired to achieve superiority and success to make sense of our existence and our mortality in the face of death. But psychologically, this acts as a defence against the opposite of inferiority. Buried out of sight of our ego functioning, pushed down into our unconscious shadow contents, men carry terror, depression and rage at our actual powerlessness and incomprehension of life. This repressed inferiority at our existence is blocked from awareness by a search for superiority that never satisfies or succeeds in bringing peace.

Stepping into detail of men's psychological self-confrontation, Karian looks at how superiority is the clue to men's psychological inferiority, the compulsive dependencies on women for our identity, the destructiveness of our fantasies, all of which are waiting to erupt individually and collectively as men. Internal and external misogyny are introduced, but more fully worked through via Freud. The collective dimension of psychological inferiority is highlighted in the destructiveness towards women in cultural and political practices in both East and West, and as a compulsion of men throughout time. The only logical conclusion is that women activate the inferiority of men - psychologically.

Reframing misogyny as the psychological content of a general inferiority complex, leaves room for two drives from Freud - the sadistic drive and the masochistic drive - that can then be combined for a better understanding of misogyny as a structural part of masculine psychology.
