End of Winter, Beach Running at Low Tide - Alaska Bush Flying

Okay winter really isn't over it's only March. But the days are getting long and the snow is beginning to disappear. I want to get back on wheels so I use my pickup truck to pack down the snow on my runway. It leaves the snow rutty but good enough for 35" Bushwheels.

I head to the beach. 65 miles that I beach run. This is how I get the rust off my flying. Staying in ground effect I hop my way towards Homer. Since the beach is sloped I'm only setting the inboard wheel on the ground. One wheel landings. Have to keep a close eye on the inboard wing tip as it is much closer to the ground than the outboard wing tip.

Once near Homer it's time to turn around, head back, and hop on the opposite wheel. One way is downwind and the other is upwind. Really good practice.

This type of flying has dangers. Don't try this without first receiving instruction from a competent off airport pilot.
