The FATE of CAPTAIN KEYES | Halo: Combat Evolved

With the Halo ring’s true purpose revealed, Master Chief and Cortana set out on a final mission to recover Captain Keyes, hoping he can help them destroy the ring. Their destination: a crashed Covenant cruiser, now overrun by the Flood. But what starts as a rescue operation quickly turns into a nightmare.

As Chief infiltrates the wreckage, he finds both Covenant and Flood forces locked in a brutal war, their conflict turning the once-imposing warship into a ruined battleground. Flood spores twist and mutate the environment, and the deeper Chief goes, the more evident it becomes that something terrible has happened to the captain.

Fighting through hordes of combat forms, carrier forms, and elite Flood warriors, Chief finally reaches the ship’s control center, only to discover the horrifying truth—Keyes has been assimilated into a grotesque Flood Proto-Gravemind, his body and mind consumed to further the parasite’s intelligence. There is no saving him. In his final act of defiance, Keyes resisted the Flood’s control just long enough to keep his neural implants hidden, preventing them from accessing critical UNSC data.

With no time to mourn, Chief retrieves Keyes’ neural implants, ensuring that their mission can still succeed. Now, there’s only one option left—return to the Pillar of Autumn and destroy Halo before it’s too late. But as the Flood continue to spread, the Covenant wage their last desperate battles, and 343 Guilty Spark still seeks to activate the ring, Chief is running out of time.
