ECC 5:4-5, When you make a vow to GOD, do not delay to fulfill it. HE has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.
PRO 10:9: An honest man walks securely, while those who are crooked will be found out. PRO 19:1: Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. PSA 25:21, May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, LORD, is in you.
When it comes to keeping vows or oaths for the man, the idea is simple, be a man of truth and integrity. The man is the head of the house, the authority, the man is to set the standard. The man is to follow the ultimate authority: The LORD Yeshua.
The message is for the people of GOD to be people of integrity. This characteristic is something that is learned behavior, for the most part. It begins in the home. Children will tend to emulate what they see in their formative years. And as parents we all make mistakes to be sure. BUT, when children are raised to be honest, to respect GOD, to obey, they will tend to have those characteristics in their adult years.
Fathers are to be sound spiritual leaders. Of course, mothers are to be the same. Children are to respect their parents. That respect comes much easier when the parents are servants and followers of the LORD GOD.
Husbands are to be spiritual leaders; loving their wives in a GOD honoring fashion. Wives are to be submissive to their husbands in the same way they are submissive to GOD.
A really bad idea, a stupid and rash vow that should never have been made. Actually we are to be very careful about any vow we take. Especially a vow to GOD. In that regard we certainly are not NOT to make vows in haste, rash decisions, that is without any thought, just blurting it out…if you LORD get me out of this I promise I vow to do or not to do whatever.
Jephthah made a vow unto the LORD and said: If YOU LORD will deliver the children of Ammon into my hand I will give to YOU LORD the first thing that comes out of my house. But it was and therefore needed to be fulfilled. Unfortunately, the first thing out of his house after the victory he asked for, was his daughter.
