In this episode, we welcome Derwin Gray back to the show. He is a pastor, author, and former NFL player. He is also the founder and lead pastor of Transformation Church in Indian Land, South Carolina. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and played for them from 1993-1997 and then the Carolina Panthers in 1998. He is the author of several books to include his new book “Lit Up with Love: Becoming Good-News People to a Gospel-Starved World”. In this interview, we discuss why it is dangerous for pastors to call themselves “annointed”, the real trauma he suffered during his childhood, how he found an escape through football, the two coaches that invited him to step into the challenge of being a great man, the naked man that helped lead him to Christ, the problem with churches that don’t focus on discipleship, why we’re all so exhausted in modernity, why most of us don’t evangelize, how he strives to make his church man-friendly, how churches should approach the subject of race, and much more.
