The Story of the Fell Locomotive

Good day! :D

What is often considered today as a very unusual one-off, the Fell Locomotive, number 10100, was a prototype that attempted to bring the concept of mechanical transmission to British Railways by combining multiple powerplants to ensure that full power could be delivered even at rest, a trait that still defeats many modern locomotive designers.

However, despite its merits, its complexity was ultimately its undoing, as the Fell Locomotive suffered a slew of reliability problems that saw it frequently out of traffic, while British Railways' initial entertaining of the design for future follow up models quickly fell by the wayside in favour of pushing forward the Modernisation Plan, bringing about an inauspicious end to the Fell after less than 10 years of existence.
