മുൻ മുസ്ലീമും ഇപ്പോള്‍ നിരീശ്വരവാദിയുമായ ശ്രീ. ഇ. എ. ജബ്ബാറിന്‍റെ ബൈബിളിനെതിരെയുള്ള ചില ആരോപണങ്ങള്‍ ഇവയാണ്:

• വിശുദ്ധ ബൈബിൾ അടിമത്തത്തെ പിന്തുണയ്ക്കുകയോ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നു.
• യുദ്ധത്തടവുകാരികളാക്കപ്പെട്ട സ്ത്രീകളെ ബലാത്സംഗം ചെയ്യാൻ വിശുദ്ധ ബൈബിൾ അനുവദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
• ബൈബിളിന്‍റെ ധാർമ്മികത എന്നുള്ളത് തികച്ചും പ്രാകൃത ഗോത്രനൈതികതയല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നുമല്ല, അത് മനുഷ്യാവകാശങ്ങളുടെ ലംഘനവുമാണ്.
• ബൈബിളിന്‍റെ ധാർമ്മികത പലപ്പോഴും ഖുര്‍ആനേക്കാൾ മോശമാണ്.

വാസ്തവത്തില്‍, ഇ എ ജബ്ബാര്‍ ഉന്നയിച്ച ഈ ആരോപണങ്ങളെല്ലാം തന്നെ, ഏകദേശം 200 വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുന്‍പേ ഖണ്ഡിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതാണ്.

അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ അടിമത്ത വിരുദ്ധ പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന്‍റെ സ്ഥാപകരിലൊരാളായ തിയോഡോർ ഡ്വൈറ്റ് വെൽഡ്, ചാൾസ് ബീച്ചർ, ജോസഫ് തോംസൺ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ ഇ. എ. ജബ്ബാർ ഉദ്ധരിച്ച ബൈബിൾ ഭാഗങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അടിമത്ത വിരുദ്ധ പ്രസ്ഥാന നേതാക്കള്‍ അടിമത്തത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് അമേരിക്കന്‍ ജനത മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ തെറ്റാണെന്ന് തെളിയിക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടി ഉദ്ധരിച്ച അതേ ബൈബിള്‍ എടുത്തിട്ടാണ് ഇ.എ. ജബ്ബാര്‍ ഇന്ന് അടിമത്തത്തെ പിന്തുണയ്ക്കുകയും പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന പുസ്തകമാണ് എന്ന് ആരോപിക്കുന്നത്!
• അടിമ, വാങ്ങുക, വിൽക്കുക, സ്വത്ത് തുടങ്ങിയ വാക്കുകൾ ഒഴികെ, പൊതുവായി നമ്മളിന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്ന അടിമത്തവും മോശൈക നിയമ പ്രകാരമുള്ള അടിമത്തവും തമ്മിൽ യാതൊരു ബന്ധവുമില്ലെന്ന് ഈ അടിമത്ത വിരുദ്ധ പ്രസ്ഥാന നേതാക്കൾ തെളിയിച്ചു. വിശുദ്ധ ബൈബിളിലെ ഓരോ ഭാഗങ്ങളും പരിശോധിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അടിമത്ത വിരുദ്ധ നേതാക്കൾ ഇപ്രകാരം വിശദീകരിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി:

• നാമിന്ന് നിർവ്വചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് പോലെയുള്ള ഒരു അടിമത്തമല്ല ബൈബിളിലുള്ളത്. മോശെയുടെ നിയമത്തില്‍, രണ്ട് കക്ഷികൾ തമ്മില്‍ സ്വമേധയാ ഉള്ള ആശ്രിതത്വ കരാറായിരുന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.
• വാങ്ങുക അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വിൽക്കുക തുടങ്ങിയ പദങ്ങൾ വിശാലമായ അര്‍ത്ഥത്തിലാണ് അതായത് വീണ്ടെടുക്കുക, സ്വീകരിക്കുക തുടങ്ങിയ വിവിധ അർത്ഥങ്ങളിലാണ് ബൈബിളിലെ ആശ്രിതത്വ കരാറുകളിൽ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്. “വാങ്ങിയ” വ്യക്തിയെ ഒരു മൂന്നാം കക്ഷിക്ക് വിൽക്കുകയും ആ വില്‍പ്പനയെ അംഗീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തതായ ഒരൊറ്റ സംഭവം പോലും ബൈബിളില്‍ ഇല്ല.
• ആശ്രിതത്വ കരാറില്‍ ഏര്‍പ്പെട്ട ഒരു ദാസന് അവന്‍റെ ആഗ്രഹപ്രകാരം എപ്പോള്‍ വേണമെങ്കിലും ഈ കരാറില്‍ നിന്ന് പിന്മാറാനുള്ള അവസരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
• ആശ്രിതത്വ കരാറില്‍ ഏര്‍പ്പെടുന്ന ദാസന്മാരുടെ ജീവിതവും അവകാശങ്ങളും സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിന് കർശനമായ വ്യവസ്ഥകൾ വിശുദ്ധ ബൈബിളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
