Samsara (2001)
"Samsara" is a 2001 independent film directed and co-written by Pan Nalin. This international co-production involves India, Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland, and delves into the spiritual journey of a Buddhist monk named Tashi, played by Shawn Ku. The film explores Tashi's quest for Enlightenment, beginning with his training as a monk from the age of five. After emerging from a three-year solitary meditation, Tashi struggles with his vows as he experiences sexual desires, leading him to leave the monastery. He meets Pema, played by Christy Chung, and they eventually marry and have a son named Karma. Tashi becomes a successful farmer and landowner, but his journey is fraught with internal conflict and external challenges, ultimately leading him back to the monastery.
