Amur Leopard Recovery A Story of Hope
29
The Amur leopard, the world’s rarest big cat, has made a remarkable recovery thanks to dedicated conservation efforts. Native to the Russian Far East and northeastern China, this elusive species faced near extinction in the 2000s, with fewer than 30 individuals remaining. The establishment of the Land of the Leopard National Park in 2012 provided a safe haven, while anti-poaching initiatives and habitat restoration have reduced threats. Conservationists have also employed camera traps to monitor populations and engaged local communities in protecting these majestic cats. Today, the Amur leopard population has grown to over 120, symbolizing hope for endangered species worldwide.
