Battle of Bloodriver 16 Dec 1838

On Sunday 16 December 1838, a group of 464 Voortrekkers moving north to escape British colonial rule came under attack by 15,000 of Zulu King Dingane's impi warriors. The boers under command of Andries Pretorius formed their ox wagons into a defensive circle known as a laager.

The impi's launched several waves of attack but were eventually beaten off. More than 3000 Zulu warriors lost their lives on the day that came to be known as the Battle of Blood River. The Voortrekkers suffered three injuries
