After a leg amputation, especially in cases involving children with bone cancer or severe trauma, a procedure called rotationplasty may be performed. In this procedure, the lower leg is rotated 180 degrees and reattached so that the foot is positioned backward. This allows the ankle joint to function as a knee joint when fitted with a prosthetic limb.
