Gateway in Sky?

An exhausted man heading home from work had to make a sudden stop when he saw the sky split open.

It was dark outside, not a soul in sight.

And yet part of the sky revealed a bright flash, particularly spotlighting an area.

This was happening close to midnight but I don't think even the moon could
cover for that.

The man is sure this is some sort of portal.
