02.16.25 "I Came to Be Part of the Peace Movement"

I think our society is again grappling with the ideas of war and peace. As steps are made to bring ends to the bloody conflicts between Ukraine and Russia, between the Palestinians and Israel – the world gets to ask itself deep and profound questions about the value of armed conflict itself. I have often said I believe an evolution is happening that is seeing war as an obsolete tactic that can accomplish nothing in the modern age, except devastation and regression. I believe that we are moving into the realm of believing war to be "unthinkable."

"The Voice for God is always quiet, because it speaks of peace. Yet peace is stronger than war because it heals. War is division, not increase. No one gains from strife." (Tx.5.24) No one gains in war. Peace heals.

There are still large segments of the population embroiled in discussions of who is "right" and who is "wrong" in these conflicts. There are still many people who, while saying that they stand for peace, will automatically reject it when it comes from "that administration" or "that President." Personally, I don't care where peace comes from. What I know is that peace heals, and as ACIM just told us, "No one gains from strife." (Tx.5.24) I will let peace come from anywhere and everywhere – and from anybody.

I grew up during the anti-war movement of the 1960s. I could say I was profoundly affected by that, but I know ACIM tells me, at a deeper I level, I came and found exactly what I was looking for and what I needed. "Perhaps you think you did not make the world but came unwillingly to what was made already, hardly waiting for your thoughts to give it meaning. Yet in truth you found exactly what you looked for when you came. There is no world apart from what you wish." (WkBk.132.5) I came to be part of this evolution towards peace. It is an important step of what will completely save the world. "I came for the salvation of the world." (WkBk.319)

And I didn't come just to observe salvation happening. I came to add my energy to the thought system that will make war as obsolete as institutionalized human slavery has become. I need to be part of that peace movement, that evolution. And I believe it needs me too.
